Zukunftsphilologie: Revisiting the Canon of Textual Scholarship was a program initiated by Freie Universität and the Forum Transregionale Studien in 2010 and came to an end in 2023. It was directed by Islam Dayeh. The program supported critical research on the history of philological practices and textual scholarship by integrating marginalized scholarly traditions from across the world and interrogating Eurocentric and colonial paradigms. The program supported 22 innovative research projects through its international fellowship program. Moreover, the program hosted the World Philologies Seminar series and organized a series of winter academies, conferences, and workshops in Berlin, Cairo, Leiden, Delhi, Cape Town, Paris, and Rabat.

The program continues in the form of Philological Encounters, a peer-reviewed journal and monograph series dedicated to the historical and philosophical critique of philology. The journal was launched in 2016 and is published by Brill.
