The Board represents the forum in its scientific claim and field of work externally and internally. It advises and decides on new programs, initiatives, the development of science communication and the infrastructures of transregional research, as well as on the fundamental orientation of the Forum. The board is responsible for the work and the scholarly program of the Forum, decides on the appointment of scholars as long-term Fellows to the Forum, who are to be entrusted with the management of specific projects of the Forum or areas of its work for a medium- to long-term period.

The Chairperson of the Board is the Board in the sense of § 26 BGB (German Civil Code); she/he conducts the day-to-day business in cooperation with the Managing Director.
