Transregional Workshops and Academies

The Forum Transregionale Studien and the Max Weber Stiftung - Deutsche Geisteswissenschaftliche Institute im Ausland (MWS) invite scholars aspiring to explore and develop transregional perspectives on their research questions and projects within the framework of international workshops and summer/winter academies. We offer open and flexible formats and strong scholarly networks, as well as support in conceptual development, practical organization and funding.

While the workshop format intends an intensive small-scale setting to probe and generate ideas and research questions (max. 15 participants), academies provide an extended workspace for early career scholars to present and connect their work to international peers and to potentially develop original concepts into larger projects (1,5 – 2 weeks and up to 25 international participants). The core convener group of summer/winter academies should involve scholars from different parts of the world. Proposals must be based on grounded scientific expertise in at least one disciplinary and regional area to enable a systematic dialogue with other areas.

To apply, scholars must hold a doctoral degree in the fields of social sciences or humanities and be currently affiliated with a German university or a research institute (also located abroad). Participants may include doctoral students.

The events are organized within the framework of the cooperative project “Transregionale Forschung” between Forum Transregionale Studien and Max Weber Stiftung – Deutsche Geisteswissenschaftliche Institute im Ausland and is funded by Federal Ministry of Education and Research .

For the coming year 2016, please apply until 1 July 2015.
