Modernisms: Concepts, Contexts, and Circulation

Transregional Academy »Modernisms: Concepts, Contexts, and Circulation«
16-24 July 2016 in São Paulo

What is understood by the concept of »modernism« in different countries and regions? Which developments and translation processes are connected to terms like »art in the colonies«, »independence«, »primitivism«, or »nation building«?

The Transregional Academy is organized by the Forum and the German Center for Art History in Paris (Deutsches Forum für Kunstgeschichte, DFK, part of the Max Weber Foundation – German Humanities Institutes Abroad).

Direction: Thomas Kirchner (DFK, Paris), Lena Bader (DFK, Paris), Jens Baumgarten (Unifesp, São Paulo), Margit Kern (Universität Hamburg), Hannah Baader (Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz/Max-Planck-Institut/Art Histories and Aesthetic Practices, Berlin), Patrick Flores (University of the Philippines, Manila), Thierry Dufrêne (Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense), Anne Lafont (Institut national d’histoire de l’art, Paris, INHA), Ana Gonçalves Magalhães (MAC-USP, São Paulo, USP), Gabriela Siracusano (Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, UNTREF, Buenos Aires), and Diana Wechsler (Museo de la Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, UNTREF, Buenos Aires).

Follow the academy at the Transregional Academies Blog and find the list of participants, project descriptions, the program, and other related information on »Modernisms«.
