Areas and Disciplines – Conference Reports
The conference, which was organised by the Forum in cooperation with the Max Weber Stiftung in Berlin in October 2013, continued the debate on the relation between systematic disciplines and area studies.
The reports, written by Melanie Hanif, who is responsible for events and academic initiatives at the Forum Transregionale Studien, were published in the journal ASIEN: The German Journal on Contemporary Asia and in a longer version on the online platform H-Soz-u-Kult. Both contributions summarize the overlapping panels “Thinking Transregional Studies” and “Doing Transregional Studies”. The first panel was about the theoretic placement of transregional studies. The second one dealed with the challenges that transregional studies must face in the academic landscape.
