The Forum Transregionale Studien decided to cancel the conference Humanities and the Social Sciences in times of Crises: Back to Provincialism?, that has been planned to be held on Friday, 20 October 2023, in Berlin with the intention to welcome the new fellows of the programs of the Forum Transregionale Studien, and to celebrate its 14th anniversary with a discussion of the role and value of humanities and social sciences in times of crisis.

Conference of the Forum Transregionale Studien is cancelled!
The cancellation is taken in view of the scale of violence, pain and suffering in the Middle East, the repercussions we see in Europe and the Middle East and the fact that many of our Fellows and Alumni, especially of the Forum's program "Europe in the Middle - The Middle East in Europe" (EUME), are affected in direct and existential ways by the violence of actions and discourses. We decided not to present, discuss or celebrate on Friday, instead, we will leave the stage of our conference empty as a sign that the grief and pain of everyone matters.
Nevertheless, we consider the topic and the questions of the conference valid and urgent. We hope being able to address them in a sound manner at other occasions in the future.
