General Information

In accordance with its goals, the Forum Transregionale Studien (Forum) carries out research projects that connect systematic and region-specific questions in a perspective that addresses entanglements and interactions beyond national, cultural or regional frames. The projects at the Forum aim to contribute to strengthening collaboration between researchers from different disciplines, institutional structures, and national or regional research traditions in Berlin.

In its work, the Forum strives to support the projects as flexibly as possible in accordance with their specific needs by inviting researchers to Berlin as fellows; by providing Berlin researchers with leaves of absence or funding for travel to enable their field work and their exchange with collaboration partners; by inviting young researchers (especially postdocs) to Berlin to work on selected topics; by promoting and organizing events in various formats; by publishing and documenting the research results in various languages; and by fostering also unconventional (for example, artistic) activities involving forms of producing new knowledge if they serve the goals of the projects and thereby of the Forum.

The Forum has begun its work in 2010 with the identification and promotion of three projects from the fields of philology, law, and urban sociology. Since 2011, a fourth project is continued at the Forum that explores the entanglements between Europe and the Middle East:

Zukunftsphilologie: Revisiting the Canons of Textual Scholarship,
Rechtskulturen: Confrontations Beyond Comparison,
Global Prayers: Redemption and Liberation in the City,
Europe in the Middle East—The Middle East in Europe (EUME).
