EXPLORATIVE WORKSHOPS            TRANSREGIONAL ACADEMIES

Current call for applications 2017/2018 (Deadline: March 26, 2017)

Scholars need free spaces to test their ideas and share their research experience. In times of increasing specialization within the social sciences and humanities transregional comparisons offer the opportunity to rethink research problems in a way that reflects upon the entanglements and parochialisms of a globalized world. The Forum Transregionale Studien and the Max Weber Stiftung − Deutsche Geisteswissenschaftliche Institute im Ausland (MWS) offer scholarly platforms through Explorative Workshops and Transregional Academies designed to enable the problem-oriented collaboration of scholars, inviting them to identify, test and develop innovative research questions and projects from a transregional perspective.

While the workshop format offers an intensive small-scale setting so as to probe and generate ideas and crucial issues (maximum 15 participants), our Academies provide an extended workspace for early career scholars to present and connect their work to international peers and to potentially develop original concepts into larger projects and academic networks (between one and a half and two weeks, and up to 25 international participants). They address specific topics and bring together scholars and institutions from various specializations and disciplines to exchange theoretical and empirical approaches that cross national, regional and disciplinary boundaries.

What We Offer

We invite scholars with a doctoral degree in the social sciences or humanities who are affiliated with a German university or research institute (also abroad) to convene Explorative Workshops or Transregional Academies that promote and critically assess transregional research. The simplified application procedure and support in organizational matters allow scholars to concentrate on the conceptual agenda of the Workshops and Academies. We promote collegial dialogue among scholars at various stages of their academic careers as well as the intensive processing of a research theme in an international and multidisciplinary context. We offer open and flexible formats and strong scholarly networks as well as support in terms of conceptual development, practical organization, communication and funding.
